Choker or collarbone: which pearl necklace actually gets worn

Most pearl necklaces that stay in a drawer are the wrong length. Too long and they sit on a sweater. Too tight and they only work with one neckline. The ones that get worn are short: a choker at the base of the neck, or a collarbone strand you can see above a shirt.

A woven scalloped choker or a butterfly drop choker is the throat piece. It wants an open neckline. A lace collar with a pearl drop or a green aventurine strand sits a little lower and works on a Tuesday.

If you are buying one necklace, collarbone length is the safer gift. If you know they wear high necks never, a choker is the one they will actually put on.

How long is collarbone length?
It sits at or just below the collarbone, not on the chest. Most of our strands are in that range, some with a short extender.

Are these freshwater pearls?
Yes on the baroque, drop, and mixed-stone pieces. The woven scalloped choker uses even round pearls; we do not call those freshwater if they are not.
